International Women's Day 2023 in Cameroon

In March 2023, we celebrated the 38th International Women’s Day in Cameroon under the theme “For an inclusive world: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality. The event saw the involvement of the senior leadership, local political administrative figures and significant massive participation of women across the plantation villages in both Sudcam and Hevecam.

The official event included a series of discussions aimed at preventing the discrimination of women in the workplace and encouraging opportunities for  career development. Speeches ensued regarding the benefits to women of digitization and technological innovations through the broader provision of electricity and internet access. This was followed by speeches from the President of the 2023 International Women’s Day, the MINPROFF, and the Sub-Prefect, who discussed opportunities for entrepreneurship.  Following this speech, the Director General of Hevecam discussed the opportunities for education through online platforms.

The festivities continued with traditional dances, interpretations, skills demonstrations by the women of Village 12, including the demonstration of “saignée” (a local skill),  a football match between two local villages, and concluding with a cocktail reception hosted by the organizing committee.

The week culminated with an IWD awareness parade that saw massive participation from women across the entire plantation. It took place at the stadium of villages 1 & 2 and concluded with the distribution of prizes to all participants who performed during the activities. The evening continued with the tasting of a varied buffet prepared by the ladies of the gastronomic commission and a dance party.

Thank you to Vice President Mrs. Chami Gladys and her team, as well as the several women who volunteered to share their learnings with the women in their villages. The Logistics and Transport commission also did an excellent job by providing transportation throughout the events.
