Our Roadmap to Net Zero

Roadmap to net zero

SHARE INSIGHT

Halcyon Agri has announced that we are launching an industry-leading roadmap to net zero carbon emissions, making headway towards committing to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This will apply to Corrie MacColl’s 110,000 ha of plantations and processing operations in Cameroon and Malaysia, formalising our core values in regards to environmental protection and tacking climate change.

The SBTi provides a clearly-defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth. Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they align with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to below 2*C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5*C. The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, World Resources Institute and WWF.

We are currently undertaking a rigorous footprint calculation process led by third-party climate solution provider, South Pole. This will lead into a decarbonisation strategy and the SBTi validation process. Additionally, Halcyon Agri has invested in a group-wide ESG data collection system, Halcyon Data Centre, to support data analysis and benchmarking.

The roadmap will build on our environmental sustainability progress to date, including our No Deforestation policy, our 25,000 Ha Community Forest, and our greenhouse gas balanced assessment in Cameroon by Rainforest Alliance. We believe that business plays a vital role in shaping a climate-secure world and a resilient economy, and we look forward to sharing our progress.

We all have to move to net zero emissions if we want to preserve our planet and our economies for future generations. This journey requires companies, governments and individuals to drive meaningful actions to decarbonise. We are very happy to partner with Corrie MacColl on their environmental footprint assessment, a fundamental first step in a robust climate journey towards a net zero future.
